Here's another way you can treat pattern. A littler freer, a little more helter-skelter, but unity still achieved through the repetition of elements. Nice rhythm too.
STEP 1 - Choose a couple of shapes to work with. In this case I chose semi-circular diamonds from double-punched circles. Draw on top. Alternate dark and light. Work with what you have.
STEP 2 - Arrange the different elements you have crafted. I arranged my red berries, leaves with white veins, leaves with dark veins, and crescents in a ring.
STEP 3 - View it from a distance, and glue it all down.
STEP 4 - Display and sign.
