Wow! Thank you Sergio at AcquaViva winery for the fresh red wine grape sample. If you haven't tried AcquaViva's wine by the way, it's excellent. Sergio Benavides joins Illinois from Chile with his mad skills - mixing Chilean agricultural practices and locally grown Illinois grapes. He produces award-winning wines. If you're into sweet, go for the Brianna. The red wines are deep, dry, and mellow. All of them great in cooking.
For my purposes, Sergio provided me with some red wine grapes for textile dye samples. Not only did the sample produce the widest range of color from any dye I've worked with, but also some very beautiful sophisticated grays when exposed to iron sulfate. The dye-stuff resulted in magenta purple-reds, bright forest green, and gray-blues almost on the verge of indigo. Thank you for the sample, I'm very happy to offer this dye to my classes and add it to my textile collection!
Join me for textiles and dyeing Thursday nights, November 6, 13, and 20 from 7:00-9:00pm at 117 West Main Street, in Saint Charles IL. You can sign up on Water Street's website, http://www.waterstreetstudios.wildapricot.org/Fall-Classes OR call 630-761-9977.
