This is a great exploration for examining symmetry, texture, and color.
1.) Obtain photographs, illustrations or even three-dimensional objects like leaves, and wood samples from your local home improvement store.
2.) Match colors, examine the way graphite or colored pencil goes on the paper, practice different mark-making techniques including: stippling and cross-hatching, examine value, chroma, along with symmetry or asymmetry. Choose to complete the subject matter, or take it in a new direction.
This bird could become a scaly creature from a lagoon with green hues and key, or you could practice geometric shapes in a high-chroma color key. It's up to you.
